Overview
Media Messages Backup is an Android application that helps you save images and videos from SMS and MMS messages to a folder you choose. The app processes message and media information on your device so it can display conversations, preview attachments, and create backups.
Data Collection
The app does not collect personal data for sale, profiling, analytics, or advertising. It does not create a user account, does not require sign-in, and does not transmit your messages or backed up media to a developer-operated server.
Permissions Used
- READ_SMS and RECEIVE_SMS: used to read SMS and MMS message content so the app can find media attachments available for backup.
- READ_CONTACTS: used to show contact names instead of only phone numbers in the conversation list.
- READ_MEDIA_IMAGES and READ_MEDIA_VIDEO on newer Android versions, or READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE and WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on older Android versions: used to access media files and save backups to device storage where supported by Android.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS: used to show backup progress, completion updates, and job-related notifications.
- RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: used to restore scheduled backups after the device restarts.
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC: used so scheduled or long-running backups can continue reliably in the background with a visible notification.
How Your Data Is Used
The app uses local device data only to provide its backup features. This includes reading message threads that contain media, showing previews, applying filters you choose, preventing duplicate backups, and writing selected files to the storage location you selected.
Storage and Retention
Backed up files are stored locally in the folder you choose. The app may also keep local app data such as backup job history, cache information, and records used to avoid duplicate saves. This information stays on your device unless you remove the app or clear its data.
Data Sharing
The app does not sell your information and does not share message or media data with third parties for marketing or analytics. Your data is only shared when you intentionally use Android features such as saving files to a storage provider you selected or sharing a file through another app.
Children's Privacy
The app is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information through a remote service.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated if app functionality or Android permission requirements change. If that happens, the updated policy should be published with a new effective date.
